Arginine metabolism: Targeted metabolomics and biochemical pathways

by | Nov 26, 2019 | Literature, Nutrition

Alterations in circulating amino acid metabolite ratio associated with arginase activity are potential indicators of metabolic syndrome: the korean genome and epidemiology study

Understanding biochemical pathways is one of the great challenges of science today. Due to growing interest in arginine metabolism and its availability in conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular risk, and obesity, Moon et al. correlate diverse intermediate metabolites to the mentioned conditions. While arginine bioavailability (defined as arginine/(ornithine + citrulline)) negatively correlates with signs of metabolic syndrome, the ornithine/citrulline ratio positively correlates with signs of metabolic syndrome. Key to these insights into enzymatic pathways is not only the absolute amounts of metabolites, but also to take sums and ratios among metabolite concentrations.

Our new MetIDQโ„ข software version (Oxygen) in combination with the MxPยฎ Quant 500 kit gives you direct access to the above-mentioned ratios as well as to more than 200 other metabolite sums and ratios relevant for biochemical pathway analysis when you use MetaboINDICATOR.
