We offer comprehensive statistical analysis and data interpretation packages for our in-house datasets, as well as any dataset produced with any one of our standardized kits.

Data analysis and biostatistics

Below is an example of data pre-processing and statistical analysis steps that are typically applied in our data analysis workflow. Each dataset is handled individually by our experts with pre-processing and statistical test methods customized for each project.

All our advanced statistical analysis packages are fully adaptable to any targeted metabolomics project and can include the following data preparation steps:

  • Data cleaning
  • Outlier analysis
  • Missing value imputation
  • Data normalization
  • Data transformation for further processing

Descriptive statistics are computed to study the overall shape of the dataset and include information such as min, max, mean, SD, median, IQR, etc… for every statistical group defined in the project.

Univariate statistics (t-test, ANOVA) and multivariate statistics are applied to identify the differences between statistical groups.

Graphical visualizations best suited to the project are produced.These usually include:

  • Boxplots
  • Principal component analysis (PCA)
  • Partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA)
  • Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) / heatmaps

Analysis on demand: additional statistical analyses can be performed upon request for each project.
Metabolite sums and ratios: exclusively for samples measured with the MxP® Quant 500 kit, additional data points are calculated based on metabolites sums and ratios using the MetaboINDICATOR™ tool.

We offer statistical analysis packages based on our kits regardless of whether samples were measured in our laboratories or at another facility.

Statistical analysis packages include the following:
  • Statistical report including all methodological details
  • Data files containing
    • raw data,
    • cleaned data
    • imputed data
    • transformed data
  • Graphical visualizations for univariate and multivariate analyses

Interpretation and pathway analysis

Confident decision making based on metabolomics requires comprehensive statistical analysis and expert interpretation of the data. With our data interpretation package, our experts bridge the gap between statistical significance and biological interpretation and meaning.

Data interpretation adds the following to the statistical package:

  • A state-of-the-art summary
  • Interpretation of results from the statistical package
  • Pathway analysis and visualizations
