Investigating mechanisms driving chronic inflammation and immune activation in people with HIV through plasma metabolomics
Despite the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in treating and preventing HIV infection, people with HIV (PWH) often experience chronic inflammation that contributes to the development of inflammatory-mediated comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. This risk is especially elevated in PWH that have poor T cell recovery, termed immunological non-responders, despite sustained viral suppression. Here, we investigate the mechanisms driving chronic inflammation during ART using the biocrates MxP Quant 1000 platform to deeply profile the plasma metabolome of PWH and healthy controls. Our goal is to identify potential interventions that can mitigate chronic inflammation and reduce the occurence of comorbidities in PWH.
