SUMMARY:Unlocking insights – Population health in large cohort studies
DESCRIPTION:Virtual event\nJoin us for a free webinar exploring the role of metabolomics in advancing our understanding of population health through large cohort studies. Featuring renowned experts\, this session will explore leading edge research\, spanning European and Indian populations\, to uncover insights into cardiovascular health and disease biomarkers. \nDate | December 05\, 2024\nTime | 12:30 to 02:00 pm CET\nVirtual on ZOOM\nMeet | Prof. Dr. Tanja Zeller\, Prof. Dr. Swarnendu Bag\, Dr. Bijon Chatterji \nRegistration | Register now!!! \nAgenda\n12:30 CET\nProf. Dr. Tanja Zeller\nUniversitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf\, Hamburg\, Germany\nFrom cohorts to biomarkers: a large-scale analysis of metabolites and their implications\nUKE – Cardiovascular-Research-Center_CVRC – AG-Zeller \nAbstract: This presentation provides an overview on the use of metabolomics in large-scale cohort studies in the field of cardiovascular research. A key focus is the EU-funded BiomarCaRE project\, in which we analyzed metabolites across different European cohorts. The talk will present the opportunities and challenges of using metabolomics in large scale cohorts and will highlight examples on potential research routes following metabolomics analyses\, ranging from cardiovascular risk prediction to experimental approaches and their possible implications for precision medicine in cardiovascular health. \nBio: Dr. Tanja Zeller is the DZHK Professor of Genomics and Systems Biology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. Her research centers on uncovering molecular biomarkers and elucidating the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases. She played a pivotal role in the large-scale metabolomics analysis of the pan-European BiomarCaRE cohort. By combining multi-omics analyses\, bioinformatics\, and clinical epidemiology\, Dr. Zeller and her team are pioneering systems medicine approaches to enhance understanding and treatment of cardiovascular health. \n13:00 CET\nProf. Dr. Swarnendu Bag\nCouncil of Scientific and Industrial Research – IGIB\, New Delhi\, India\nTargeted metabolite profiling of human plasma samples from a pan-India cohort\nDr. Swarnendu Bag\, PhD | LinkedIn \nBio: Dr. Swarnendu Bag is currently a scientist at CSIR-IGIB and an Assistant Professor at AcSIR\, under the Government of India\, New Delhi. His research focuses on mass spectrometry-based clinical proteomics and metabolomics\, with a strong emphasis on cancer biology. He specializes in identifying and quantifying proteomic and metabolomic signatures for early detection\, prognosis\, and predictive marker discovery in various diseases. Dr. Bag earned his PhD from IIT Kharagpur and has accumulated diverse academic and research experience as a faculty member and scientist at renowned institutions\, including the National Institute of Technology Sikkim\, Tata Medical Center Kolkata\, and AIIMS New Delhi. \n13:30 CET\nDr. Bijon Chatterji\nbiocrates life sciences gmbh\, Innsbruck\, Austria\nScalable metabolomics in population health\nDr. Bijon Chatterji | LinkedIn \nAbstract: This talk explores the growing prominence of population-based studies and biobanking initiatives in recent years. While genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been widely adopted\, emerging omics technologies are now driving the shift toward deep phenotyping in large cohorts. To meet the needs of researchers\, these technologies must deliver comprehensive datasets while ensuring cost efficiency. Equally important is the demand for standardized\, scalable\, and reproducible methodologies that support decentralized workflows\, empowering researchers with complete ownership and control of their data. \nBio: Bijon Chatterji serves as the Global Lead for Population Health at biocrates and holds a PhD from the University of Hannover. With over 20 years of experience spanning academia and industry\, his core expertise lies in proteomics\, metabolomics\, and mass spectrometry. Bijon has also hosted numerous online and in-person events\, including the prominent “Metabolomics India” series.
